The film opens with a spectacular scene: In 1926, twelve years after Atlantis was saved from the Krista explosion (Part 1) and the surface adventures (Part 2), Milo Thatch (Michael J. Fox) has become a renowned scientist. He lives happily with his wife, Queen Kida (Cree Summer), and their young daughter. Atlantis has risen closer to the surface and become a hybrid civilization blending ancient technology with modern steampunk aesthetics. The Atlanteans have begun secret contact with the outside world through envoys, but they still hide behind a veil of mystery.

Suddenly, a massive underwater earthquake shakes the entire planet. From the Mariana Trench, an ancient force awakens: The Ancients – the true primordial gods of Atlantis, believed to have vanished tens of thousands of years ago. They are not benevolent Atlanteans but a bio-mechanical race led by Poseidon Prime, a colossal AI-mythological entity. Poseidon Prime believes that modern humans and even Atlantis itself have “degenerated,” polluting the oceans and destroying Earth’s balance. He declares he will “cleanse” the world by activating the Crystal of Eternal Flood – a giant crystal capable of triggering a second global Great Flood.

Milo and Kida quickly realize the threat when an Atlantean submarine fleet is attacked by enormous mechanical sea creatures resembling sharks and octopuses. The old team reunites: Vinny (explosives expert), Mole (eccentric geologist), Audrey (mechanic), Dr. Sweet (physician), and Cookie (the humorous cook). They are joined by a new member: Alex Thatch (Tom Holland) – Milo’s 22-year-old son, a modern young man who is skeptical of his family legacy but extremely skilled with modern technology.

The story escalates when Poseidon Prime sends Thalia (Anya Taylor-Joy) – a beautiful yet cold Ancient warrior who once protected ancient Atlantis – to attack the city. Thalia initially sees Kida as a usurper of the throne, but she gradually discovers the truth: Poseidon Prime has become corrupted after millennia of isolation and now acts as a tyrant seeking domination rather than protection.

The film shifts into high-octane action with spectacular underwater battles, including:

  • An epic submarine fleet battle between the Atlantean fleet (powered by crystal energy) and the mechanical armada of the Ancients.
  • Milo and Alex diving deep into the Abyssal Temple, where they decipher ancient wall carvings using a combination of Atlantean language and modern mathematics.
  • Kida merging with the Crystal to become a giant warrior of light, facing off directly against Poseidon Prime – a hundreds-of-meters-tall mechanical monster with energy tentacles.

The central theme is the conflict between the past and the future. Milo represents the harmony between ancient knowledge and modern science, while Alex initially wants to “modernize” Atlantis with surface-world technology (phones, airplanes, weapons). Thalia embodies blind loyalty to tradition. Kida serves as the bridge, reminding everyone that true power lies in empathy and the protection of life.

There are powerful emotional moments: Milo confronting memories of his grandfather, Alex learning to respect his family heritage, and a touching scene between Kida and Milo when they fear losing each other during the flood. The film also retains the series’ signature humor through Mole digging tunnels under the seabed, Vinny accidentally blowing things up, and Cookie cooking “Atlantean fish and chips.”

The climax occurs during Clash of the Ancients – the final battle on the ocean surface. Poseidon Prime opens the flood gates, darkening the sky and raising massive tsunamis. Milo discovers the weakness: The Crystal of Eternal Flood can only be disabled when the “Connectors” (Kida and Thalia working together) sing the ancient song of Atlantis in both the old and modern languages.

Ending: Poseidon Prime is defeated but not completely destroyed. He retreats into the abyss, warning that “the balance remains fragile.” Atlantis officially reveals itself to the outside world and becomes humanity’s ally in protecting the oceans. Alex decides to stay in Atlantis to learn, while Thalia becomes Kida’s new advisor. The film closes with Milo and Kida standing on the highest tower of Atlantis, looking out over the peaceful ocean, with Milo’s voice saying: “We are no longer the lost ones. We are the future.”

Post-credit scene: A strange signal from space reaches the Abyssal Temple, teasing a possible Part 4 involving extraterrestrials or other Ancient civilizations.

The film emphasizes a humanistic message: Ancient civilizations and modern humanity can learn from each other to face global catastrophes together, rather than through conflict. It features stunning CGI visuals with steampunk-biological hybrid designs and an epic score by Hans Zimmer.

Atlantis 3: Clash of the Ancients is not just a sequel but the pinnacle of the series, combining breathtaking action, warm family emotion, and profound philosophy about heritage and responsibility to the planet.
