HERCULES 2: IMMORTAL WRATH (2026)

Genre: Action – Adventure – Mythology

Director: Louis Leterrier

Main Cast: Dwayne Johnson (Hercules), Gal Gadot (Megara), Oscar Isaac (Hades), Anya Taylor-Joy (Erinyes – Goddess of Vengeance), Henry Cavill (Theseus), and Russell Crowe as an aged Zeus.

The film opens with a grand, epic scene. In the year 2026 by the human calendar, the worlds of Olympus and the Underworld remain in the age of heroes. Hercules (Dwayne Johnson), after completing the Twelve Labors and saving the world from the collapse of the old gods, has retired to a peaceful coastal village in Greece with his wife Megara and their two young sons. He tries to leave his bloody past behind and live as an ordinary father. However, fate refuses to let him rest.

In the depths of the Underworld, Hades (Oscar Isaac) — whom Hercules once defeated — has been resurrected by absorbing the souls of imprisoned Titans. No longer the weakened lord of the dead, Hades now possesses “Immortal Wrath,” an ancient forbidden power from the time of the Titanomachy. He declares he will overthrow Olympus and devour the mortal world to create an eternal kingdom of darkness. To achieve this, he needs the “Blood of the True Hero” — the blood of Hercules.

Hades sends the three Erinyes (Furies), led by the beautiful yet ruthless goddess played by Anya Taylor-Joy, down to the mortal realm. In a terrifying stormy night, they slaughter Hercules’ two young sons in front of him. Megara is gravely wounded and falls into a cursed “Eternal Sleep.” The immortal wrath awakens inside Hercules. He decapitates one of the Erinyes right inside his own home and roars a solemn oath: “I will kill Hades, even if I have to tear Hell itself apart!”

Hercules sets out alone. He travels to Delphi for a prophecy. The blind Oracle reveals that only the “Three Keys of Immortality” can open the gates to Hades’ new palace — a floating fortress in the middle of the River Styx. The three keys are scattered across three dangerous realms:

  1. The Amazon Lands — Queen Hippolyta challenges Hercules to a brutal one-on-one duel. He must confront his guilt after realizing he once unknowingly killed many Amazons. There, he rescues Theseus (Henry Cavill) — the hero of Athens — who has been imprisoned. The two become sworn brothers and together obtain the First Key from the Temple of Artemis.
  2. The Abyss of Tartarus — The prison of the surviving Titans. Hercules must battle a partially revived Cronus. The fight is ferocious, filled with earthquakes and giant scythes. Using the power inherited from his father Zeus, Hercules defeats Cronus but is nearly killed by a curse: “You shall die by your own blood.”
  3. The Island of Circe — Home of the most powerful witch of antiquity. Circe tries to seduce Hercules and turns him into a lion inside a beautiful illusion where his family is still alive. Hercules must use sheer willpower to break the spell and claim the Final Key.

During the journey, Hercules reunites with Zeus (Russell Crowe) — his biological father — who is now old, weakened, and has lost most of his divine power after the previous war. Zeus confesses he knew about the tragedy of his grandsons but did not intervene because “a hero’s fate always demands sacrifice.” Their emotional father-son conversation becomes one of the film’s most powerful scenes, bringing tears to audiences.

Once Hercules collects all three keys, he and Theseus lead a small army of surviving heroes (including the returning comic-relief and loyal Iolaus) into the Underworld. Megara awakens thanks to Athena’s magic and insists on joining the fight despite Hercules’ protests. She tells him: “You are no longer a hero alone.”

The climax takes place at the “Palace of Shadows” — a colossal structure with pillars made of Titan bones. Hades appears in giant form, his body engulfed in black fire and screaming souls. The final battle lasts a spectacular 20 minutes:

  • Hercules unleashes his full divine strength, shattering the sky of the Underworld.
  • Theseus uses the Shield of Achilles to block deadly arrows.
  • Megara fires arrows from Artemis’ bow, taking down hundreds of monsters.
  • Hades reveals a shocking secret: Zeus himself had once sealed the Immortal Wrath because he feared his own son (Hercules) would become stronger than him. Hades offers Hercules a chance to join him and overthrow Zeus together.

Hercules nearly succumbs when he sees an illusion of his two dead sons. But the memory of their smiles helps him break the curse. In a supreme rage, he drives the Hammer of Hephaestus through Hades’ heart, releasing the entire Immortal Wrath back into the one who created it. Hades disintegrates in a scream, exploding into black ash.

Victory comes at a heavy price. Theseus dies heroically to save Megara. Zeus appears one last time, smiles at his son, and fades away, leaving the throne of Olympus to Hercules. But Hercules refuses it. He says: “The gods could not save humanity. Only humanity can save itself.” He shatters the throne and returns to the mortal world with Megara to live as a mortal man.

Post-credit scene: Hades’ whisper echoes from the abyss: “Immortal Wrath… never dies.” A familiar figure (hinting at Part 3) appears smiling in the shadows — Ares, the God of War.

The film ends with Hercules holding his newborn son on the beach at sunrise, golden light shining on his scarred, muscular body. Harry Gregson-Williams’ epic score swells.

HERCULES 2: IMMORTAL WRATH is not only an action spectacle but also a powerful story about loss, forgiveness, and choosing the path of humanity over godhood. A worthy sequel full of emotion and top-tier CGI, expected to dominate the box office in 2026.
