Main Cast: Wu Jing as Leng Feng, with supporting Chinese and Western actors.
Runtime: 120 minutes
Opening (0-15 minutes)
The screen fades in from black. Distant gunfire echoes.
Leng Feng (Wu Jing), codenamed “Wolf Warrior,” is the captain of the Wolf Special Forces Unit of the People’s Liberation Army. He is tall, muscular, with cold, wolf-like eyes. During a training mission in the mountains of Tibet, Leng Feng leads his team to completely destroy a simulated terrorist group in just 11 minutes.
After the exercise, he is summoned to the command office. A stern general says: “Leng Feng, you are too hot-headed. In real combat, you violated orders by saving an injured comrade instead of completing the main mission.” Leng Feng lowers his head but shows no regret. He is demoted and transferred to a border protection unit in the south.
Before leaving, Leng Feng visits his father’s grave — a veteran who died in a border war in the 1980s. He silently vows: “Father, I will never disgrace the wolf blood in our veins.”
Main Conflict (15-70 minutes)
Leng Feng arrives at the Yunnan border area, near Laos and Myanmar. A major conspiracy is unfolding here.
An international arms trafficking organization led by an American-Chinese tycoon named “Mr. James” (played by a Western actor) is working with European mercenaries and local forces. They are testing a new biological weapon called “Project Red Wolf.” The goal is to destabilize the region and then sell the weapons to warring parties.
During a patrol, Leng Feng witnesses a village being attacked. He charges in to rescue the civilians and kills seven mercenaries. In the chaos, he saves Dr. Li Qing (Zhao Liying), a Chinese doctor investigating the secrets of Project Red Wolf. Li Qing reveals that her father — a scientist — has been kidnapped by Mr. James and forced to perfect the bioweapon.
Leng Feng reports to his superiors but receives orders to “not intervene.” However, when an entire border village is brutally massacred — including women and children — his blood boils. He decides to act alone.
The first major action sequence explodes: Leng Feng single-handedly assaults a mercenary camp deep in the jungle. He kills four enemies with a combat knife, snipes three from a distance, then drives a jeep-mounted machine gun straight into the base. Gunfire fills the air and flames light up the forest. He is wounded in the shoulder but escapes with Li Qing.
Mr. James is furious and orders Leng Feng to be hunted down at all costs. He hires “Crazy Wolf” — a former British special forces soldier and Leng Feng’s old nemesis from a previous mission.
Climax (70-105 minutes)
Leng Feng assembles a temporary “Wolf Team” consisting of his former special forces comrades and local militiamen. They plan a raid on Mr. James’ main base hidden deep in the border jungle.
A series of intense action scenes follow:
- River battle: Leng Feng pilots a high-speed boat, dodging bullets and destroying two enemy vessels with grenades.
- Ambush in thick fog: He and his team use sniper rifles to eliminate a squad of mercenaries.
- Peak hand-to-hand combat: Leng Feng fights Crazy Wolf in a weapons warehouse. The brutal fight involves knives, pistols, and finally bare fists. Leng Feng uses his signature “Wolf Bite” technique — a special move of the Wolf Unit — to break his opponent’s arm and finishes him with a gunshot.
Li Qing is captured and taken hostage. Mr. James activates a timed bomb connected to biological gas canisters, threatening to release the deadly toxin across the border region.
With only 90 seconds left, Leng Feng storms the command center alone. Iconic slow-motion shooting scenes follow: he leaps from the second floor, guns down five guards, rolls to dodge bullets, and charges straight at Mr. James. Tense dialogue ensues:
Mr. James sneers: “You people are just tools. This world is ruled by money and power.” Leng Feng replies coldly: “But we have the will of the wolf. We protect our motherland and our people.”
Leng Feng is shot in the stomach but still lunges forward, throwing Mr. James out of a fourth-floor window. They fall together, with Leng Feng landing on top of him. Before dying, Mr. James triggers the bomb.
Ending (105-120 minutes)
In the final moments, Leng Feng and Li Qing rush into the laboratory and disarm the biological weapon just in time. Reinforcements arrive and eliminate the remaining enemy forces.
Final scene: Leng Feng stands on a mountain peak at the border, watching the Chinese flag wave in the wind. He is severely wounded but stands tall. The general appears, placing a hand on his shoulder: “Wolf Warrior, you have completed your mission.”
Leng Feng smiles wearily: “This is not the end. There are still many wolves waiting.”
The screen displays: “Dedicated to all the silent soldiers guarding the borders of our motherland.”
Soundtrack: Powerful epic Chinese music mixed with wolf howls and war drums.
Message of the film: The spirit of patriotism, the unyielding will of Chinese soldiers, the unity between the military and the people, and a warning against hostile foreign forces.
