THE MARLOW MURDER CLUB

THE MARLOW MURDER CLUB – SERIES 2 (2025): THE “MURDER GRANNIES” ARE BACK AND DEADLIER THAN EVER!
Cozy-crime lovers, grab your tea and biscuits – the queens of Marlow are returning! After a brilliant first series that felt like Death in Paradise crashed into The Thursday Murder Club at a riverside village fete, The Marlow Murder Club Series 2 lands in 2025 with bigger mysteries, sharper banter, and even more quintessentially British charm.
Here’s your full 1000-word deep dive into everything you need to know before the new murders begin!
1. Welcome Back to Britain’s Most Dangerous Pretty Village
Marlow: red-brick cottages, gliding swans on the Thames, perfectly manicured lawns… and a body count that would make Midsomer look peaceful. After solving three grisly cases in Series 1, our amateur sleuth trio thought they could finally enjoy retirement. Wrong. 2025 brings three brand-new two-part mysteries, each one darker, twistier, and more deliciously impossible than the last.
2. The Three Cases You’ll Be Obsessing Over
- Case 1 – “Death Comes to Marlow” (the locked-room masterpiece) A wealthy baronet is murdered in his study: door bolted from the inside, windows six metres above ground, no footprints, no weapon left behind. Judith declares it “pure Golden Age perfection”. Expect champagne-soaked parties, secret passages, and a killer who apparently learned to fly.
- Case 2 – “The Man Nobody Knew” A nameless stranger is stabbed to death in the middle of sleepy Linnet Lane – a cul-de-sac where the biggest scandal is usually an untrimmed hedge. No ID, no connection to Marlow… until a 15-year-old missing-person case resurfaces. Suzie weaponises her dog-walking gossip network like never before.
- Case 3 – “Blood on the Thames” A prominent member of the prestigious Marlow Rowing Club is beaten senseless and dumped in the river, staged as a tragic boating accident. Hidden affairs, old rivalries, and cutthroat competition among the blazer-wearing elite turn the regatta into a crime scene. The sunset boat-chase finale has already been called “visually stunning and absolutely chilling”.
3. The Unstoppable Trio – Why We Adore Them
- Judith Potts (Samantha Bond) – 68, single malt connoisseur, cryptic-crossword genius. Bond plays her with delicious arrogance and hidden vulnerability. Watching Judith connect clues over whisky and The Times is pure joy.
- Suzie Harris (Jo Martin) – Professional dog-walker, zero filter, energy of a caffeinated terrier. Martin steals every scene with razor-sharp one-liners and fearless attitude.
- Becks Starling (Cara Horgan) – Vicar’s wife, mother of three rebellious teens, always carrying homemade shortbread and a heavily annotated Bible. Horgan makes Becks the emotional glue – and the one who can calm Judith and Suzie when they’re at each other’s throats.
Together, they’re the ultimate celebration of brilliant women over 60 who refuse to fade into the background.
4. Stellar Guest Stars & Returning Favourites
Series 2 raids the entire British acting treasure chest:
- Rita Tushingham reprises the gloriously nosy Mrs Eddingham.
- Steve Pemberton (Inside No. 9), Patricia Hodge (Miranda), Trudie Styler, Tom Forbes (Wolf Hall), and more pop up with scene-stealing cameos.
- DCI Tanika Malik (Natalie Dew) has officially given up fighting the trio and started a group WhatsApp called “Murder Mums + One Cop”. The banter is gold.
5. Peak Cozy-Crime Aesthetics
This is cozy crime done to perfection:

- Golden-hour cinematography that makes you want to move to Buckinghamshire tomorrow.
- A soundtrack of gentle piano and vintage jazz.
- Word-play and crossword clues woven into the plots (Judith literally solves cases via The Times cryptic).
- Zero gore, maximum wit, and friendships that feel like a warm hug.
6. Where & When to Watch
- UK: Starts 19 March 2025 – double episodes weekly on U&Drama and UKTV Play (with subtitles).
- USA: PBS Masterpiece from 24 August 2025.
- International/Vietnam: Series 1 hit Netflix just four months after the UK broadcast, so fingers crossed for a quick drop! In the meantime, BritBox and Acorn TV are your best bets. The official 2-minute trailer is already live on the UKTV YouTube channel – go watch it now and thank me later.
7. Why Series 2 Is Unmissable
- It puts women in their 60s and 70s front and centre as the coolest, smartest heroes on television.
- It’s the ultimate comfort watch that still keeps you guessing until the final seconds.
- You’ll accidentally improve your cryptic-crossword skills (Judith is an excellent teacher).
- Quite simply, there’s no other show that’s this clever, warm, and laugh-out-loud funny all at once.
So clear your schedule, stock up on custard creams, and set a reminder for March 2025. When the final credits roll on episode six, you’ll be desperately petitioning for Series 3 – and maybe even applying for honorary Marlow residency.
