The Family Stone 2 (2025)

Drop whatever you’re doing. Cancel your plans for December. Clear your schedule, stock up on tissues, and warn your therapist.
After 20 YEARS of begging, crying, and manifesting in the group chat…
THE FAMILY STONE 2 IS OFFICIALLY COMING CHRISTMAS 2025.
Yes, you read that right.
The movie that made an entire generation believe in messy, loud, imperfect, beautiful families is getting the sequel we never dared to dream of.
CinemaCon 2025 just showed the first 12 minutes of footage and the entire hall was a sobbing mess. Someone had to be carried out because they were ugly-crying so hard they couldn’t breathe. This is not a drill.

✨ THE STORY THAT WILL BREAK YOUR HEART INTO A MILLION PIECES AND THEN GLUE IT BACK WITH LOVE ✨

It’s Christmas Eve, 2025.
The same snow-covered house in New England.
The same chaotic kitchen that still smells like Diane Keaton’s cinnamon rolls.
But 20 years have passed, and life has happened—in all its brutal, hilarious, tender glory.
- Everett (Dermot Mulroney) is now the dad who thinks he’s “cool” but gets roasted daily by his 17-year-old daughter who runs a viral TikTok account called @MyDadIsAScam.
- Meredith Grey-Stone (Sarah Jessica Parker) is the unofficial matriarch who holds everyone together with martinis and passive-aggressive Post-it notes—until she discovers she’s perimenopausal and suddenly everything is on fire.
- Amy (Rachel McAdams) is a single mom of two feral geniuses, living in Sybil’s old attic, still wearing her mother’s vintage sweaters like armor. She’s about to find a locked box under the floorboards that will rewrite everything she thought she knew about her mom.
- Ben (Luke Wilson) has been sober for 12 years, but this Christmas he’s facing something scarier than relapse: a diagnosis that makes the whole family realize they’ve been taking his chaotic light for granted.
- Thad & Patrick now have FOUR adopted kids—ages 17, 14, 10, and a surprise 3-year-old they brought home from Ethiopia last year. Their eldest just came out as non-binary and declared, “I’m not doing Christmas this year.”
- Susannah is pregnant with twins via surrogate and keeps stress-eating Kelly’s secret stash of 30-year-old bourbon balls.
- And Kelly Stone himself (Craig T. Nelson) is secretly writing letters to Sybil every night on the back porch, because some grief never gets smaller—it just learns to live beside you.

Then, on December 23rd, the kids find the box.
Inside:
- 47 unopened letters addressed to Sybil from 1987
- A Super 8 film labeled “The Christmas We Never Talk About”
- A positive pregnancy test from 1968
- And a note in Sybil’s handwriting:
“If you’re reading this, it means I’m gone. Tell them the truth. All of it.”
This Christmas isn’t about who’s bringing a girlfriend home.
It’s about whether a family can survive the truth they’ve been avoiding for half a century.

🎥 BEHIND THE SCENES TEA THAT WILL MAKE YOU SOB 🎥
Director Thomas Bezucha kept the script in a locked drawer for 15 years.
When he sent the cast the first page—which just read “Christmas Eve, 2025. The house looks exactly the same. But none of us do.”—every single actor replied within 24 hours: “I’m in. No questions.”
They rebuilt the entire original set board-for-board.
The dining room table is the SAME ONE from 2005.
Rachel McAdams found Diane Keaton’s actual sweater from the first movie in wardrobe and wore it in the attic scene without telling anyone. When Thomas saw it on camera, he had to stop filming because he was crying too hard.

- Original score by Gustavo Santaolalla (The Last of Us, Brokeback Mountain)

If you’ve watched the first movie more than 5 times…
If you still quote “I’m the daughter!” unironically…
If you’ve ever screamed at your TV “JUST OPEN THE PRESENTS ALREADY”…
This is your Super Bowl.
This is your royal wedding.
This is the reason tissues were invented.
Comment “I’M NOT READY” if you’re already crying.
Tag the friend who forces you to watch the original every December 1st.
Save this post because your grandchildren will ask you where you were when The Family Stone 2 was announced.

This Christmas, the Stones aren’t just coming home.
They’re bringing 20 years of baggage, love, secrets, and the kind of healing that only happens when you’re stuck in a house with the people who know you best—and love you anyway.
May I simply just say what a relief to find somebody who genuinely knows what they are discussing online.
You definitely understand how to bring a problem to light and make it important.
More and more people really need to look at this and understand this side
of the story. I was surprised you aren’t more popular since you certainly have the gift.
